Synopsis Jean Erdman began her professional career with one of the most celebrated choreographers of all time -- Martha Graham. From 1938-43 Erdman danced with Graham's illustrious, groundbreaking company before going off to develop her own creative abilities. She ultimately collaborated with innovative composer John Cage, choreographer Merce Cunningham and cinedance filmmaker Maya Deren. Influenced by both her husband Joseph Campbell and by Graham, Jean Erdman frequently focused on mythological figures.
The series "Dance and Myth: The World of Jean Erdman" consists of three tapes exploring the body of her work. Tape 2, "The Group Dances" includes "The Perilous Chapel" (1949) and "Solstice" (1950).
