Synopsis Louis P. Masur has been in a long-term relationship with Bruce Springsteen's masterful record BORN TO RUN since he was 18 years old. With a lot more time and writing experience under his belt, Masur now confronts this record with the passion of a fan and thoughtfulness and insight of a critic. He takes a rather lit crit approach to some of his analysis--for instance, focusing on the theme of place and Americana in Springsteen's lyrics--as well as suggesting a lineage of great American poets and songwriters (from Whitman to Dylan) into which Springsteen fits. But Masur doesn't ignore the music or the behind-the-scenes story of the record's creation, and he also presents a historical context for the record within the Boss's long and storied career.
