Movie Description College professor Johnathan Jones (Tom Poston) finds a mysterious coin that gives him superpowers in this genial, youth-oriented comedy. The coin slows down time when he says the word "Zotz," and if he points at someone, it immobilizes them with pain. (If he points and says "Zotz" at the same time, the person dies.) He tries to turn the coin over to the U.S. military, but it thinks he's a crank and kicks him out of the Pentagon. Unfortunately, some shifty communist spies believe him; they want the coin for themselves, and the chase is on. Gimmick film producer-director William Castle shows a flair for light, suspenseful comedy in this film, based on the novel by Walter Karig. Jim Backus (of GILLIGAN'S ISLAND fame) and Margaret Dumont (of Marx Bros. fame) head the cast, along with Cecil Kellaway, Julia Meade, Louis Nye, Fred Clark, and Mike Mazurka as one of the spies. Albert Glasser appears as Khrushchev. The screenplay is by Ray Russell (X: THE MAN WITH X-RAY EYES).
Synopsis A college professor finds a coin with incredible powers, and his life is consequently turned upside down.
Film Notes Patrons during the film's original run were given plastic "Zotz" coins as souvenirs.
