Album Notes Texas Tornados followed up their welcome self-titled debut with ZONE OF OUR OWN one year later. All four band members contributed to writing seven of the 10 tunes on this album. That the Tornados revisit some strong compositions from their back catalogue matters very little. Sahm's "I'm Not That Kat Anymore" and "Is Anybody Goin' To San Antone" (which he didn't write, but became closely associated with via the Sir Douglas Quintet) sound fresh, sturdy and exuberant. Freddie Fender again brings a show-stopping ballad, "Oh Holy One"--his vocal swoops can make grown men cry. Augie Meyers' two turns at vocals prove once again to be a nice foil to the singing of Sahm and Fender. The accordion of Flaco Jimenez is masterful, as he displays his effortless command of everything from melancholy chordal backdrops to pulsing Tex-Mex dance steps.
