Movie Description
The infamous team of director Sergio Martino and screenwriter Ernesto Gastaldi join forces once again for this gore-infused psychological thriller, replete with all the sordid drama and bloody mayhem that characterized their previous efforts such as THE CASE OF THE SCORPION'S TALE, TORSO, THE STRANGE VICE OF MRS. WARDH, and ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK. Irina Rouvigny (Anita Strinberg) is the much-put-upon wife of an alcoholic, abusive novelist who delights in humiliating her. His wandering eyes and hands, however, become of secondary importance when young girls begin turning up murdered in and around the couple's luxurious chateau. Recalling Edgar Allen Poe's "The Black Cat," the couple bury the evidence behind a brick wall in their cellar, while their pet looks on. Meanwhile, their comely niece Floriana (Edwidge Fenech, SECRETS OF A CALL GIRL) turns up to stay for a spell. The stylization of this classic giallo recalls Dario Argento's DEEP RED, and mixes all the elements of non-mainstream 1970s cinema--sex, incest, hippies, drugs--with a high-caliber score composed by Bruno Nicolai (KILL BILL) and Ennio Morricone (THE UNTOUCHABLES, CITY OF JOY).
