Movie Description Director Joseph Brooks (THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH) also wrote and produced this story of a young woman's determination to follow her showbiz dreams. Laurie Robinson (Didi Conn, GREASE) doesn't want to follow in her famous comedian father's footsteps. Desiring her own career as an actress and singer, she breaks off an engagement with her hometown sweetheart and hits the road. After auditioning for a film role, she quickly finds herself in an ill-fated relationship with the director. The memorable title song was a million-selling hit for Debby Boone and went on to win an Academy Award for Best Song.
Synopsis A young woman, born and bred in the world of show business, tries to restart her stalled career and settle her love life.
Film Notes Additional cast: Stephen Nathan (Ken Rothenberg), Amy Letterman (Laurie as a child), Marty Zagon (Nussbaum), Lisa Reeves (Carla Wright), and John Gowans (Charley Nelson).
The musicians of the New York Philharmonic get screen billing for scoring.
Director-screenwriter Joseph Brooks previously worked in advertising and wrote commercial jingles.
Industry Reviews "...Fresh and interesting....[The film] benefits enormously from the uncommon innocence and vulnerability of [Conn's] manner, the delightful eccentricity of her timing and the air of invincible hopefulness she brings to even the most heartbreaking of situations." New York Times - Janet Maslin (09/01/1977)
