Movie Description Told with much compassion, two stories from Nobel Prize-winning writer Luigi Pirandello are brought to the screen from Italian masters the Taviani Brothers (PADRE PADRONE). In the first, an aging baritone singer in the opera is forced to give up his profession due to heart trouble. As he attempts to give up his dreams, his wife notices a strange phenomenon that literally keeps her awake at nights. Her husband, despite his personal sadness, is laughing uproariously in his sleep. The retiring singer tries to remember what tickles him so during his slumber and in turn analyzes what makes him laugh and what makes him live. The second story compares two kidnappings in Sicily that took place a century apart.
