Synopsis Through Frank Capra's compilation of contrasting images, some of which were taken from captured propaganda footage, the documentary series, "Why We Fight," portrays the fascist threat to the free world. The collection contains: "Prelude to War and The Nazi Strike," "Divide and Conquer," "The Battle of Britain," "The Battle of Russia," "The Battle of China" and "War Comes to America."
Film Notes WHY WE FIGHT was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 2000.

This series of films was produced for the US War Office, and at President Roosevelt's insistence, it was later shown to the public.
As a result, Prelude to War won an Academy Award as Best Documentary in 1942.
For his efforts, Frank Capra was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by his commanding officer, George C. Marshall.
