Album Notes Seattle native and renowned hip-hop producer Jake One has built a rep in the rap industry providing tight beats for a wide range of artists both underground (3rd Degree, Encore, Boom Bap Project, Vast Aire, Rasco, Arcee) and commercial (Nas, 50 Cent, G-Unit, E-40) since the mid-1990s. His debut album, WHITE VAN MUSIC, sees Jake laying down tracks for an extraordinarily eclectic band of lyricists. Every track bangs while a few diverse match-ups (Brother Ali and Freeway, Bishop Lamont and Busta Rhymes) are especially rewarding. M.O.P., Young Buck, Little Brother, Evidence, Prodigy, Keak da Sneak, MF Doom, and Posdanous of De La Soul are just a few of the mic rippers on hand.
Industry Reviews The two short tracks with MF Doom, 'Trap Door' and 'Get 'Er Done' are the highlights, both based around tight, rolling, bluesy turnarounds on either piano or guitar...
3.5 stars out of 5 -- [I]t's the way Jake bridges the hip-hop divide that's impressive: Instead of tailoring tracks to his diverse guests, he finds them strong material that also suits his early-'90s aesthetic.
3 stars out of 5 -- [H]e advertises his savvy versatility, crafting BLUEPRINT-era soul, dusty underground hip-hop, and a sharp 9th Wonder impersonation...
