Album Notes
The Mekons include: Tom Greenhalgh (vocals, guitar, piano, synthesizer); Jon Langford (vocals, guitar); Rico Bell (vocals, accordion); Ken Lite, Sarah Corina (vocals, bass); Sally Timms (vocals); Susie Honeyman (fiddle); Steve Goulding (drums).
Engineers include: Ian Caple, Brian Pugsley, Tony Bonner.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Along with its companion volume I HAVE BEEN TO HEAVEN AND BACK, 1999's WHERE WERE YOU?: HEN'S TEETHà functions as an even more wide-ranging follow up to 1982's magnificent THE MEKONS STORY. Like that double album, the two volumes of HEN'S TEETH create a secret history of the Mekons by collecting outtakes, rarities and live tracks into one scattershot yet curiously cohesive volume.
Focusing more on covers than its companion volume--Johnny Cash, the Kinks, and Dutch anarchists the Ex are all thus honored--WHERE WERE YOU? also collects early versions of Mekons delights like "Mekons Rock 'n' Roll," "Waltz," and an odd, fascinating dub version of the mordant "1967."

Industry Reviews
7 out of 10 - ...the whiff of forgotten history, the kind that doesn't belong to winners....wading through the muck is worth it if you think the Mekons as radical journalists writing history's first draft....flashes of brilliance....Even the assorted covers resonate with death, dread, and history....
Spin (12/01/1999)

4 out of 5 - ...illuminates the offhand greatness of the Mekons better than any other record....an accurate reflection of their rough 'n' tumble existence...
Alternative Press (11/01/1999)

3 stars out of 5 - ...[The Mekons] offer a series of blurry, Chablis-stained snapshots from the family album - and what a family it is: a dysfunctional art-punk collective that doesn't always perform in tune or show up on time but never plays a false note...
