Album Notes Soul Asylum: Dan Murphy , Dave Pirner (guitar); Karl Mueller (bass guitar); Grant Young (drums). Additional personnel: Bernie Worrell (melodica). Though the Minneapolis pre-grunge outfit Soul Asylum finally achieved success with their 1992 Columbia album GRAVE DANCER'S UNION, they had built up a considerable underground following in the previous eight years since their formation. This best-of features the two late-1980s albums the band recorded for A&M, as well as various outtakes and two searing live 1990 shows from Chicago and Ann Arbor. It's a nice document of a forgotten era in alternative music, and a band that played a notable role it what made it so special.
