Movie Description Four brothers who have followed distinctly different paths in life reunite after a lengthy period apart in the directorial debut from Henry LeRoy Finch. The film begins in flashback, with an older incarnation of one of the brothers, Sebastian (Martin Landau), looking back on the reunion. He sits in the derelict family home where the bulk of WAKE takes place, and recalls what occurred on that fateful day. Director Finch then backtracks to the present and allows the original tale to unfold. Kyle (Gale Harold), Sebastian (played in the younger incarnation by Dihlon McManne), Ray (Blake Gibbons), and Jack (John Winthrop Philbrick) are the four brothers, all eager to claim a piece of their mother's estate once she passes away. They reconvene at their former family home in Maine, where their mother still resides in an ailing state. As the alcohol flows, bitter recriminations and old feuds reawaken, with Kyle and Sebastian teaming up against Ray and Jack in an attempt to resolve their issues. Childhood recollections are peppered with fearsome arguments, and although the entire family is clearly dysfunctional, no one embodies this more than the mentally challenged Kyle. Haunted by memories of past humiliations at the hands of his brothers, and by the voices in his head, it is Kyle who snaps completely and threatens to resolve everything with a couple of handguns. It is only then that the four siblings are totally honest with each other, leading to some surprising revelations, and some intense performances from the four actors. As Finch steers the movie towards its conclusion, he provides some surprising twists in the plot, and offers a highly assured debut feature in the process.
