In this historic look at the chronology of a technological pioneer, the John Deere tractor is presented as an icon for the delight of collectors and farm machinery buffs. Photographer Arnold begins with the founding of the John Deere company by a blacksmith in Grand Detour, Illinois. From the first self-scouring plow made in 1837 through the 1960s, when the two-cylinder tractor went out of production, Arnold chronicles the machines that transformed the American farm. Excellent photographs and engaging text are supplemented by reprints of old sales brochures. The book also covers rare limited-production tractors. While the topic has a narrow audience, collectors and enthusiasts are an avid bunch, and this title will have strong appeal.
