Album Notes On seminal DJ culture magazine Urb's techno compilation, the expected turntable magic never displaces the funky beats that are the lifeblood of any good dance track. Future Sound Of London, Rabbit In The Moon, DJ Icey and others keep things moving with old favorites. Wink's "Higher State Of Consciousness" is as mind-blowing as it was on the day of its release. Newer dance floor-shakers from the likes of Goldie and The Chemical Brothers bode well for the breakbeat-funk future of techno. A gritty tonal sensibiltiy runs through this disc, contrasting the increasing commerciality of the previously underground techno sound. This is not an in-the-mix recording, but still remains a fine sampling of what turntable wizards around the world are up to. Highlights include Rabbit In The Moon's "O.B.E" and Future Sound Of London's "We Have Explosive."
