Album Notes
Squeeze: Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook (vocals, guitar); Julian "Jools" Holland (vocals, keyboards); Harry Kakoulli (bass); Gilson Lavis (drums).
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Remastered British edition includes two extra songs ("Deep Cuts," and "Heartbreak").
Squeeze's 1978 debut found them with a "U.K." affixed to the front of their name to avoid confusion with a similarly named American band. When that group disbanded, they dropped the adjective, and future pressings found all traces of it removed as well. This first release, produced by John Cale, had no shortage of youthful exuberance.
The careful pop craftsmanship, a hallmark of their subsequent work, was not yet in place. Instead the album offers high-octane arrangements and production approaches. The fine songwriting of Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford was already in place (indeed, they had been writing together throughout their teenage years) and the album includes the minor British hit, "Take Me I'm Yours." Though not as refined as they would soon become, this album did serve to announce their arrival.
