Synopsis
Sue Monk Kidd and her daughter Ann Kidd Taylor co-wrote this moving memoir which documents several trips they took together while they were each on the verge of embarking on a new stage of their life. In 1998, Sue Monk Kidd had just turned 50 and was looking for the activity and purpose which would drive her now that her family had grown, while her daughter Ann was fresh out of college, but had been denied acceptance to the graduate program she most coveted. While traveling through Greece, Turkey, and France, the Kidd women found solace in sharing their hopes and struggles with each other and in studying the legacies of mythological and spiritual women such as Persephone, Demeter, Athena, and the Virgin Mary. As they alternate chapters detailing their own enlightening experiences on their trips together, the line between mother, daughter, and woman blurs just enough to make us realize that our individual lives and choices might often be defined as finer, more personal versions of universal processes.
