Synopsis Singer-songwriter Tori Amos' professional life began in 1985 with a band called Y Kant Tori Read, an unsuccessful venture that led to a substantial career rethink on her part. But, as Kalen Rogers recounts in her official biography of the artist, ALL THESE YEARS, Amos was something of a child savant, possessing a highly developed musical ear from an early age. Her natural talent tended towards the performance of pop music, for which she was expelled from her music academy, and in her teens she began to perform in piano bars, escorted by her minister father. A move to Los Angeles led to the aforementioned fruitless band endeavor, but, after several years and many more low-profile gigs, she released an acclaimed debut solo album, 1991's LITTLE EARTHQUAKES. Containing the traumatic "Me and a Gun," the true story of Amos's rape by an armed fan, the album was a hit both in the US and the UK. Published in 1994, ALL THESE YEARS is an absorbing recital of essential Amos facts, including a wealth of photographs of the artist at various ages and stages of her career, up to the successful and erotically driven BOYS FOR PELE album.
