Movie Description Award-winning Dutch organist and conductor Ton Koopman has become renowned for his recordings of baroque classical music, in particular the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. In this release, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir (founded and conducted by Koopman) performs Bach's magnificent Markus Passion in the splendid Church of San Simpliciano in Milan, Italy., In 1731, Johann Sebastian Bach composed the "St. Marks Passion." Sadly, the original music was lost, meaning only a scant few people got to hear the masterful work that Bach conjured up. Some solace could be taken from the text of the piece, which remained intact, and on this release composer Ton Koopman takes some bold strides by completing Bach's piece so contemporary audiences can hear what the legendary figure may have envisioned for his "St. Marks Passion." The painstaking process was agonized over by Koopman, but the results are highly rewarding, with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Choir providing a reverent performance of Bach/Koopman's work.
