Industry Reviews
Gr 4-8 Nu?ez, still the only Latino to officiate for a major-league sport at the time of this publication, had a troubled childhood and youth. His metamorphosis from troublemaker and criminal-on-the-make to respected sports official and volunteer in youth programs is one worth sharing with young people. It's unfortunate that the text is so mediocre. Uninspired writing such as "He started drinking and acting stupid" weaken this pedestrian biography of a subject with whom some reluctant readers might identify. Black-and-white photos of the subject are included. Rosie Peasley, Empire Union School District, Modesto, CA
