Album Notes This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The Breeders: Kim Deal (vocals, guitar, drums); Kelley (vocals); Richard (guitar); Mando (bass); Jose (drums). Japanese version contains the bonus cuts "Forced To Drive" (Loho Version) and "Climbing The Sun." It may have taken nearly a decade for The Breeders to deliver a follow-up to 1993's critically and commercially acclaimed LAST SPLASH, but TITLE TK does not disappoint, as Dayton's Deal sisters continue to serve up their brand of oddly patched-together pop. With lo-fi engineering deity Steve Albini manning the board, The Breeders return with a stripped-down sound that manifests itself on off-kilter cuts like "Sinister Foxx" and the shambling, gloriously dissonant "Too Alive." Although the pace throughout is decidedly low-key, the decidedly tart harmonies the Deals sprinkle throughout TITLE TK make for a singular listening experience, particularly on the druggy haze of the psychedelic nugget "The She," the plodding "Little Fury," and the rumbling post-grunge that is "Son Of Three." Elsewhere, The Breeders rev up the tempo with a reworking of the cow-punk-flavored Amps number "Full on Idle" and the newly penned pop-punk nugget "Huffer." TITLE TK is a welcome return from what could have been one of the '90s great one-shot bands.
Industry Reviews Included in Rolling Stone's 50 Best Albums of 2002 Rolling Stone (12/26/2002)
...A suprisingly low-key, beat-focused record... CMJ (05/20/2002)
8 out of 10 - ...Good. It's also odd, tuneful, sad and impressively empty soudning; the arrangements showcasing skeletal guitar and drum patterns and Deal's remarkable vocals... NME (05/25/2002)
...Instantly evokes past glory... - Rating: B- Entertainment Weekly (05/24/2002)
...Ironically, given its lengthy gestation, TK feels impulsive, spontaneous and - in a good way - lazy. Largely, it's a languorous, mid-paced affair that eschews visceral assault and pop nous for a raw, prowling, feline angularity... Mojo (06/01/2002)
6 out of 10 - ...An homage to Kim Deal's early-'90s cool-as-ice pop majesty... Alternative Press (06/01/2002)
3.5 out of 5 stars - ...This is hot, scratchy, burdened un-rock... Rolling Stone (05/23/2002)
