Movie Description Mitchum's real-life son plays his kid brother in this battle-and-chase crime drama of a Kentucky moonshiner, the Feds who oppose him, and the mobsters who try to take him over. In an atypical casting move, love interest is supplied in the person of chanteuse Keely Smith.
Synopsis The members of Lucas Doolin's family have been Kentucky moonshiners for many generations. Lucas attempts to carry on the tradition by transporting the illegal whiskey to Southern markets. This becomes more and more difficult, because not only is U.S. Treasury Department agents cracking down on bootleggers, but a powerful racketeer now wants a corner on the market, and Lucas and his friends are in his way.
Film Notes Actor Robert Mitchum wrote, produced, and starred in this film. DRM is his production company. He even wrote the theme song, "Whippoorwill."
Co-star Jim Mitchum is the son of Robert Mitchum.
