Krayzie Bone is best known for his work with the Bone Thugs crew, but he's equally effective (if not even more so) on his own. His second solo effort, THUG ON DA LINE, finds Krayzie refining his sound even further than before. It's intriguing to hear him approach hardcore thug-life topics with such a smooth, low-key rapping style. KB's rhythmic delivery is occasionally informed by dance-hall reggae and R&B, and the production is similarly expansive, injecting melodic vocal lines into his raps. Instead of pandering to the lowest common denominator with a flurry of expletives and a bevy of jeep beats, Krayzie Bone raises the bar by employing subtle beats, inventive, textured arrangements, and understated vocal delivery. These techniques just serve to put his message across with all the more resonance.
Industry Reviews 4.5 discs out of 5 - ...Bone proves that even thugism can be elevated. Courageously swimming against the crunked-out tide, Krayzie meshes pristine, symphonic tracks with pure street lyricism, creating a sort of adult-contemporary rap style....THUG shows a daring sense of range...
