Synopsis
Charlton Heston, Anne Baxter and Gilbert Roland portray the title characters in this unusual western set during Reconstruction.
A battalion of Confederate soldiers live in Texas under Union rule. Their forces maimed by insulting northerners and abusive carpetbaggers, these men-in-gray still follow the guidance of a fiercely proud captain. Aside from military obligations, this officer plans to wed a strong-willed lady named Lorna.
She, however, withholds a damaging secret about where she used to work during the Civil War.
