Synopsis Eddie Olczak and his wife Krystyna are the loving parents of Anne and Lucy, who are pupils of Sister Regina at St. Joseph's Church and school, where Eddie also works as the janitor. Tragedy strikes when Krystyna is killed in an car crash, and the family struggles to cope. Sister Regina is forbidden to offer comfort to the Olczaks and begins to question her vows, and her love for the Olczak family grows. Soon Eddie and Sister Regina realize they are battling sin in forbidden love. This, Spenser's last novel, is set in her hometown of Browerville, Minnesota, and many of the characters are based on real people she knew there.
