Album Notes Personnel: Sheila Chandra, Steve Coe (vocals, various instruments). Recorded at the Coachhouse, Clifton, Bristol, England in October 1993. All songs written by Steve Coe and Sheila Chandra except "En Mireal Del Penal" (Arroyo/Benito). Includes liner notes by Sheila Chandra. Sheila Chandra makes further forays into world musical styles on ZEN KISS, maintaining only a tenuous attachment to the Indian roots that brought her to prominence in the 1980s. The acapella opener, "La Sagesse," finds her delving into the gospel traditions of the American South, while she turns to British folk on "Love It Is a Killing Thing." On "Abbess Hildegard," Chandra pays homage to medieval feminist icon Hildegard von Bingen in a rite that has been explored more fully by the Iranian-born, Indian-raised vocalist Azam Ali on PORTALS OF GRACE and other works.
Industry Reviews ...given the amount of studio trickery in general use, a single, naked voice is about as daring as we can get these days... Alternative Press (10/01/1994)
