Fifty-five-year-old Betta Nolan has lived in Boston for many years, where she has forged a successful career as a writer of children's books. When her husband dies, she fulfills a lifelong dream: to move to the Midwest! Settling in a small town in Illinois, Betta starts a new life, complete with a gift shop, some good friends, and a lot of insight into some of the mystifying details of her old life.
