Movie Description Ernest Thompson's adaptation of his Broadway play THE WEST SIDE WALTZ casts stage and screen legends Shirley MacLaine and Liza Minnelli in a heartwarming tale of loneliness and female friendship. MacLaine stars as Margaret, a lonely widow who uses her sharp wit and tongue to ward off any attempts at human interaction. Her only friend is violin-playing next-door neighbor Cara (Minnelli), who Margaret tolerates only because she accompanies her on piano while playing waltzes. The women's solitary existence is suddenly broken by the arrival of Robin (Jennifer Grey), a young divorcee and aspiring actress who inspires Margaret and Cara to rediscover the joys of life, love, and friendship. Kathy Bates has a cameo performance.
