Movie Description A musical comedy about the famous military academy. AKA: "Fine and Dandy." Academy Award Nominations: Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.
Synopsis A Broadway dancer would never enroll in West Point, unless he happens to be Elwin Bixby.
Bixby, a heralded and arrogant singer-dancer in New York, reluctantly agrees to stage the annual West Point cadet show, "100th Night," at the military academy. Cadet Tom Fletcher wrote the tunes, which Bixby feels are strong enough for The Great White Way. So Bixby not only has to direct the musical, but also convince Fletcher to bring it to Broadway.
To persuade the young man, Bixby must become a cadet himself and live by West Point codes of conduct. The brash star has little patience for the brass and its regulations. Bixby demonstrates his insubordination by taking his lover along for the ride, and he even sets up Fletcher with a girl of his own. Soon he has made the whole academy do an about face.
