Movie Description Hoping to travel back in time to right an accidental slaying, a 12th-century knight and his bumbling squire are instead sent 900 years into the future. Once they get their 20th-century bearings, they set out to reclaim their castle (now a luxury hotel) and to figure out how to return to their own era - but the newly liberated serf may not want to return. This hilarious comedy became the highest grossing comedy of all time in France.
Film Notes This film was incredibly popular in France; at one point, over 20,000 people a day attended a screening.
Screenwriter/actor Christian Clavier and actress Valérie Lemercier both appeared onstage in French vaudeville -- a form which, unlike its American counterpart, is alive and thriving. Much of the film's material derives from this tradition.
Other production companies: Amigo Productions (France) and Alpilles Productions (France). The region of Languedoc-Roussillon in France also contributed financially to the production.
Running time 107 minutes.
Rated BBFC 15 by the British Board of Film Classification.
