Movie Description
Hoping to travel back in time to right an accidental slaying, a 12th-century knight and his bumbling squire are instead sent 900 years into the future. Once they get their 20th-century bearings, they set out to reclaim their castle (now a luxury hotel) and to figure out how to return to their own era - but the newly liberated serf may not want to return. This hilarious comedy became the highest grossing comedy of all time in France.

This film was incredibly popular in France; at one point, over 20,000 people a day attended a screening.
Screenwriter/actor Christian Clavier and actress Valérie Lemercier both appeared onstage in French vaudeville -- a form which, unlike its American counterpart, is alive and thriving. Much of the film's material derives from this tradition.
Other production companies: Amigo Productions (France) and Alpilles Productions (France). The region of Languedoc-Roussillon in France also contributed financially to the production.
