Afraid to swim across the river because of the hippopotamus there, a turtle takes inspiration from other animals in trying other ways to get across., Afraid to swim across the river because of the hippopotamus there, a turtle takes inspiration from other animals in trying other ways to get across. Features rebuses., Intimidated by the rather large hippopotamus she sees standing in the middle of the river, a little turtle is too frightened to swim from her side of the river (which has no food) to the other side--which is full of delicious reeds. She asks a number of other creatures for advice, but gets the most help from a surprising new friend. Color illustrations accompany this rebus story.
