Movie Description Director Don Sharp takes on the Alfred Hitchcock classic (from the novel by John Buchan) in this civilized spy yarn. In this version, Robert Powell plays Richard Hannay, an innocent man who is suddenly swept up into a conspiracy that could affect world peace. The cast also features the always excellent David Warner and John Mills.
Synopsis In this early work by Hitchcock, Richard Hannay, is a Canadian engineer visiting London. At the end of "Mr Memory"'s show in a music hall, he meets Annabella Smith, who it turns out is a British spy fleeing Prussian secret agents. When he consents to hide her in his flat, she is murdered in the night. Fearing he could be accused of the girl's murder, Hannay goes on the run through Scotland while trying to break the spy ring. This classic Hitchcock "wrong man" thriller anticipates his biggest American films, especially NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Though it has little to do with the original novel, it is unparalleled in its use of timing, atmosphere and comic relief.
Industry Reviews "...[The score is] an obviously fine mood contribution..." Variety - Pit.
