Industry Reviews K-Gr 2 A tiny mouse named Lizzie awakes from a quixotic dream and decides she's the "strongest animal in the woods." Armed with her delusions of grandeur, she brags about her abilities to the other forest creatures refusing to even test her strength against the less mighty animals. She heads straight off to challenge Albert the bear. Setting aside the bit of fear rising inside of her, Lizzie defeats him handily. During her post-Goliath reverie, the spectators shout "Happy Birthday Lizzie!" At that point, she realizes that Albert let her win, and a woodland party ensues. While the colorful, watercolor-washed illustrations capture the expressions of the creatures nicely, they can not save the flat story. The plodding text lacks pacing, logic, or tension and ends too abruptly. A weak offering indeed. Christy Norris Blanchette, Valley Cottage Library, NY Lopate
