Movie Description
A veritable who's who of Paramount's top talent from the 1930s and 1940s, THE STAR SPANGLED RHYTHYM is a unique film on the basis of cast alone, which includes Victor Moore, Bob Hope, Franchot Tone, Dorothy Lamour, Veronica Lake, Paulette Goddard, Alan Ladd, Bing Crosby, Cecil B. DeMille, Preston Sturges, among many others.

The Hollywood-oriented plot is what allows for all these cameos. Moore plays Pop Webster, an old silent film actor who has been demoted to studio guard. Webster, in cahoots with telephone operator Polly Johnson (Betty Hutton), has his sailor son Jimmy (Eddie Bracken) convinced that he runs the studio. When his son receives shore leave in Los Angeles, Pop has to work hard and fast to prevent his son from finding out the truth. So well loved is Pop that virtually everyone on the studio lot is willing to help out with the charade.

Hit songs from this musical comedy include "That Old Black Magic," "Old Glory," and "On the Swing Shift."
