Synopsis Olivia de Havilland received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in this groundbreaking melodrama about a young woman's struggle with mental illness. Virginia Cunningham, a beautiful new bride, suddenly starts to go insane. Committed to an asylum, she undergoes therapy and is soon released. But she was discharged against the better judgment of her analysts. Sure enough, Virginia has a terrible relapse and must again be committed. It isn't until the understanding Dr. Kik takes control of her case that she finds the road to recovery. Before it's over, Virginia will have endured electro-shock treatment, narco-synthesis, hydro-therapy and the anguish of living among the psychologically tormented.
