Album Notes Soft Cell: Marc Almond (vocals); David Ball (various instruments). Includes liner notes by Tony Mitchell. A straightforward chronological overview of Soft Cell's career through the a-sides of their singles from 1981's "Memorabilia" through to 1984's "Down in the Subway," THE SINGLES may be all the Soft Cell you'll ever need. 1982's worldwide smash "Tainted Love" is included, of course, as are the other two singles from their first and best album, 1982's NON-STOP EROTIC CABARET, "Bedsitter" and "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye." 1983's brilliant "What?" is the other must-have. The rest of the collection hits the high points of Soft Cell's two later albums, THE ART OF FALLING APART and THIS LAST NIGHT IN SODOM, where singer Marc Almond begins to fully indulge his Jacques Brel/Scott Walker fixation.
