Synopsis Mel Bork, a retired cop, sends Navajo tribal cop Joe Leaphorn a picture of a Navajo rug from Luxury Living magazine, wondering if it could be the same rug that supposedly burned along with one of the FBI's most wanted criminals. When Bork is abruptly murdered, Leaphorn asks his longtime partner Jim Chee to help him solve a case that will lead them to a heartless and possibly supernatural killer. Tony Hillerman remains in fine form in THE SHAPE SHIFTER, the 18th installment of his award-winning Leaphorn and Chee series.

Industry Reviews "Only [Tony] Hillerman could so masterfully connect such disparate elements as an ancient cursed weaving, two stolen buckets of piñon sap and the Vietnam War. The conclusion is sure to startle longtime fans of this acclaimed mystery series." [Starred review.] (09/04/2006)
