Nigeria's Fela Kuti, amongst other 1970s innovators, popularized the jazz-inflected, funky style that he called "Afrobeat." Predictably, the style has mutated and evolved in the ensuing years while maintaining its original flavor and politically charged themes. This comprehensive compilation consists of a disc's worth of songs by the current generation's finest purveyors of Afrobeat--including several non-African acts--and one bonus disc by New York City's Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra.
