Synopsis In this political thriller, the fate of the Romanovs, Russia's old ruling dynasty, is in the hands of an African-American lawyer. The people of Russia, tired of both Communist dictators and the ineffectual post-glasnost governments that followed, have decided to return to a monarchy. To that end, Miles Lord, an Atlanta lawyer, travels to Russia to be part of the process of selecting a candidate for tsar. When Lord learns that his firm's chosen candidate, a distant Romanov relation, has ties to Russian organized crime, he joins with a Russian acrobat to pursue the rumor that a direct descendent of Nicholas II actually exists.
