Synopsis
A dramatization of the eventful life of Catherine the Great, focusing on how the modest German became a Czarina of all the Russians. Catherine's marriage to Grand Duke Peter was arranged by his mother Empress Elizabeth to provide heirs to the throne. But when Catherine realizes she is married to an alcoholic who is ill-equipped to handle any royal responsibilities, she rises to the challenge and takes on many of the tasks herself, despite her inexperience.
