Synopsis This is the second volume of Asprey's biography of Napoleon, following THE RISE OF NAPOLEON BONAPARTE. Napoleon expands his empire, brings reforms to French society, and enjoys military and diplomatic success. He then suffers setbacks and defeats, is forced to abdicate, returns briefly to power, and finally is defeated at Waterloo, after which he is exiled to St. Helena, where he dies.
