Movie Description In this fine British film, adapted from Penelope Mortimer's novel, a weary mother of eight comes to terms with her own existence after learning her third husband is having an affair.
Synopsis From the novel by Penelope Mortimer, adapted by Harold Pinter, this poignant drama focuses on Jo, the mother of 8 small children who leaves her second husband to marry an up-and-coming screenwriter named Jake Armitage. Unfortunately, Jake believes that the successful man has the right to be unfaithful to his wife. As Jo's happiness gradually changes to bitterness and despair, she realizes that only psychiatric help can help her deal with this painful situation.
