Synopsis Hope Edelman details the extraordinary lengths she and her husband went to in order to exorcise "Dodo," her three-year-old daughter's imaginary friend, and how the experience called her own rigid system of belief into question. Edelman was a proud skeptic who required tangible proof before she would profess to any idea, but her faith in science began to falter when "Dodo" took over the mind of her daughter, Maya. After the parenting manuals and psychology guides provided no relief, Edelman and her husband took Maya to Belize for some alternative therapy with a shaman. What happened next was enough for Edelman to surrender to the "possibility of everything," as she came to realize that there are forces at work in the world which are as yet untainted by human explanation.

Industry Reviews "[A] charming memoir full of self-deprecating honesty....The book is equal parts a meditation on the trials of motherhood and marriage, a travelogue and an exploration of faith, which [Edelman] braids together into a highly readable, insight-laden narrative." (starred review) (08/03/2009)
"This stirring account of Edelman's...trip to Belize...is a well-crafted tale of skepticism versus spirituality....[Her] writing soars highest when depicting her family's eye-opening encounters in the humid jungle with--just possibly--the supernatural." (09/25/2009)
"[A] carefully crafted, highly detailed memoir...." (09/20/2009)
"Hope Edelman possesses a voice that embeds itself in your mind....What's memorable is Edelman's ability to convey her experience of motherhood--the love, the fear, the worry." (10/08/2009)
