THE PICADILLY COLLECTION combines some of Squeeze's biggest singles with several vinyl B-sides that were previously unreleased on CD.
Squeeze includes: Jools Holland, Paul Carrack (vocals, keyboards); Harry Kakuulli, Keith Wilkinson (bass); Gilson Lavis (drums); Glenn Tilbrook, Chris Difford.
This compilation takes a look at the career of Squeeze, focusing primarily on their post-reformation albums (from 1985 to 1995). As such, these dozen and a half songs function as a nice companion to SINGLES 45 & UNDER, the band's collection of singles from the late seventies and early eighties (four songs overlap but are necessary insofar as they give listeners a glimpse of the band's first phase). Squeeze's nineties work--especially FRANK and SOME FANTASTIC PLACE--were sadly overlooked upon their initial release. This collection gives one pause to admire just how consistently inventive and smartly catchy this band has always been. There are several big hits included, and the rest all sound like hits that should have been. The world may not have noticed, but Squeeze certainly never stopped coming up with the goods.
