Album Notes Original score composed by John Williams. Features violin solos by Mark O'Connor. Recorded at Sony Pictures Studios, Culver City, California. John Williams has been killing us softly with his soundtracks for decades--most of us don't even notice, until the goosebumps rise or the eyes start misting over. By turns lush, exciting, and pastoral, with gentle hints of fife and drum, THE PATRIOT's sumptuous soundtrack looms here like an outsize American flag. Owners of vast stereo systems will appreciate the booming cellos and tympani that inevitably attend a John Williams soundtrack. Williams makes a fine marriage of the martial and the orchestral throughout THE PATRIOT, successfully evoking the pathos of the film's events. If you couldn't attend the Revolutionary War, this might be the next best thing.
