Album Notes
Recording information: Roy Acuff Theatre, Nashville, TN.
Released to coincide with a special PBS broadcast and live DVD, the box set GEORGE JONES: 50 YEARS OF HITS features classic and contemporary Nashville stars paying tribute to possibly the greatest male country singer of all time. Guests include Randy Travis, Trace Adkins, Lorrie Morgan, Vince Gill, and Amy Grant, among others. Jones himself appears for several duets. The 50 tracks on GEORGE JONES: 50 YEARS OF HITS are arranged in chronological order, featuring one of Jones's singles from each year of the five decades he spent in the country charts. For most country singers, that would involve some serious dull stretches, but even during the times when his personal problems were most intense, Jones always had the skill to create something special, and the artists sharing his stage understand exactly what that quality is.

Industry Reviews
[She] delivers nine top-shelf originals, including many that express poignant political sentiment sans soapbox.

'Up Against the Rain' pays homage to the memory of Griffith's mentor, Townes Van Zandt. 'Across America' points out the optimism and hope in the wake of Obama's election.
