Album Notes Sunz Of Man: Prodigal Son, Killah Priest, Hellraiser, Holy Psychiatrist, 62nd Assasin. Additional personnel includes: Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, Master Killa, U-God; Earth, Wind & Fire. Producers include: RZA, Wyclef Jean, Supreme, 4th Discipline, True Master. The Sunz of Man are probably the most solid of the Wu-Tang satellite groups (Killarmy, Black Knights, Wu-Syndicate, etc.). The crew displays a level of maturity and demonstrates a firm handle on the topics of spirituality and social unrest. The nucleus of the crew is Killah Priest, the highly underrated MC with a well-developed philosophy of self-design. He also possesses a knowledge of Biblical scripture that would impress even the most skeptical men of the cloth. Though THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST is not a true testament to the skills and potential of this crew, when the beats do work, they hit hard, a la "Cold" one of the album's strongest cuts. The Wyclef-produced "Shinning Star" features guest spots by ODB and Earth, Wind & Fire. Despite the few (and they are few) flaws, the album does please. For a better taste of the Sunz, seek the hard-to-find album, THE FIRST CHAPTER (intended to be the first album but released after THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST on a much smaller indie label in 1999).
Industry Reviews ...gained crucial exposure via guest spots on other Wu-affiliated records....[T]hose in desperate need of some summer school education should examine this disc thoroughly... The Source (08/01/1998)
