Movie Description In this strange horror film, Nazis guarding a Romanian castle unwittingly release a demonic creature that the fortress was built to imprison. After slaughtering many of the German soldiers, the creature threatens to take the life of a Jewish historian and his daughter. Scott Glenn plays a warrior with the unique ability of keeping the monster at bay in Michael Mann's terrifying film.
Synopsis A company of German soldiers is sent to guard an ancient castle in Romania. Upon arriving at the castle, the soldiers discover that the keep is a prison that was built to hold in a vampiric demon. The demon is released and goes on a rampage, slaughtering everyone in sight. Scott Glenn plays the mysterious Glaeken, the only man who can stop the monster. He travels from Greece to Romania to confront the demon in a battle he knows he may very well lose.
THE KEEP is an eerie film that takes its job to frighten seriously. Michael Mann's direction gives the movie a dreamlike atmosphere, making it a thoroughly chilling tale. Though underrated upon its release, THE KEEP has become a cult classic.

Bob Keen, a member of the creature crew for THE KEEP, went on to do the special effects for HELLRAISER and became one of the preeminent effects artists in the UK during the 1980s.
There are several alternate versions of THE KEEP. Some were cut for television, others were endings that were shot but never used. Many Mann films, such as MANHUNTER and LAST OF THE MOHICANS, also have alternate versions available.
