Synopsis Posthumously published, this young adult romance from classic children’s author Madeleine L’Engle--best known for A WRINKLE IN TIME--was originally written in the 1940s. Elizabeth, a 20-year-old who longs for a life in the theater against the wishes her aunt, finds both romance and betrayal in a summer stock group. According to the prologue, by L’Engle’s granddaughter, the story is autobiographical. Although it's certainly not her best work, fans are sure to enjoy this piece of nostalgia.

Industry Reviews "Never before published, although written as the time of its 1940s setting, it is both somewhat dated and surprisingly modern in its tone...A joy indeed." (04/01/2008)
"Even with a veil thrown over the characters' sex lives, L'Engle suggests the intimacy, good and bad, within a theater company, and her dialogue pungently evokes the period." (06/02/2008)
