Following closely and confidently in the footsteps of the stupendously popular THREE TENORS release--on which Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras turned their classically trained talents to popular song--THE IRISH TENORS employs the same formula with surprisingly fresh results. John McDermott, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan are three of Ireland's most accomplished interpreters of national vocal music. They give passionate readings of such age-old folk songs as "Minstrel Boy," "Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go?," and "The Town I Loved So Well."
Also included are songs nearly everyone will recognize, including "Toora-Loora-Loora," "Danny Boy," and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling." But those completely unfamiliar with the rich musical traditions of the Emerald Isle are in for a wonderful discovery in these superb renditions. The disc is recorded live in Dublin with a powerhouse 60-piece orchestra. McDermott, Kearns, and Tynan each sing several songs solo and also perform as a trio, lending their alternately tender and powerful vocal treatments to these timeless Irish classics.
